Afterschool in the Avenues
Our curriculum provides opportunities to explore many different activities by traveling in small groups for one week explorations in each area of interest. Located in “The Avenues” building, the children can express their creativity in ten fully equipped areas of interest.

The James River Rapids: Physical activity using a traverse climbing wall, basketball court, scooter, ping-pong table, outdoor blue top and more.
The River City Café: Hands-on kid’s kitchen where basic cooking and food preparation are taught by making homemade foods.
The Monument Avenue Art Studio: Creating art by working with pottery, sewing, painting, crafts and more.
Theatre Row Drama Center with Stage: Self confidence and creative thinking skills are developed through improv and public speaking.
Research Road Science Lab with Greenhouse: Creatively explore science through experiments, projects, games, lego robotics and other STEM Projects.
64West Game Area: Exercise your brain and enhance your game playing skills with board games, Lego and domino challenges.
The Loft: Enjoy using digital cameras, video equipment, computers and software to learn the basics of photography, artistic photo enhancement and video making. This room also has a Smart Board and Green Screen that will be used by this session.
Capitol City Library with Reading Loft: Enhance a love for reading through hands-on activities involving authors, illustrators and favorite books. Journaling, digital and paper scrapbooking are a focus in this area.
Carytown Dance Studio: Participation in music and movement that reflects song and dance.
Grades: Entering K through 5th Grade
Schedule: 2, 3 or 5 day programs, 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m (or 5:30PM on Fridays).
Meals: “Snack Trolley” where students select two items: yogurt, cheese, fruit, cereal bars, cereals, pretzels and crackers to go along with milk or water.
Transportation: Provided from school as applicable.
